1-1/2 Lbs. lean ground beef
1/4 cup yellow onion, chopped
2 Tbs. canned chopped jalapeno
1 egg
2 tsp. fresh chopped garlic
1 Tbs. chili powder
Sea salt and black pepper, to taste
6 Sharp cheddar cheese slices
6 Kaiser buns, toasted (or whole wheat buns)
Toppings:
Sour cream
Shredded lettuce
Salsa
In a bowl, combine beef, onion, jalapenos, egg, garlic, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 6 patties.
Heat skillet or griddle pan. Spray with nonstick spray. Cook patties 5-6 minutes on each side, or until cooked. At the end, top each patty with a slice of cheese, until melted.
Remove meat and let it rest on a plate. Meanwhile toast buns face down on heated skillet or griddle. (This prevents them from getting soggy when you add your toppings.)
Once toasted, spread sour cream on bottom half of bun. Layer the bun with patty, lettuce, salsa, and bun top.
Tip: Adding 2 Tbs. of the chopped jalapenos will give the burger a mild spice. Feel free to add more, for a spicier burger.
