Why We Homeschool!

Back in 2009, my husband and I made the decision to homeschool our children. This decision was based on the increasing expense in our private-Christian school tuition. Unfortunately, we did not feel that a public school setting would meet the desires of our heart or the needs of our children. Thus, began our journey into new territory!

During my journey I've often heard the excuse, "I could never homeschool because I couldn't be with my child all day, everyday," from non-homeschooling parents. I have personally found that being with my children all day, everyday, has allowed me to focus on a good education that fits to their specific needs. Each child has a different learning style and this opportunity has allowed me to focus in on that, working to individual paces. Homeschooling also allows me to focus in on manners and habits throughout  the day, in hopes to shape their character into a more Christ-like attitude. I love the fact that I can give them a Christian-based education, and not have to worry about what they are being taught outside my control.
Although academic instruction is important, my relationship with my children is even more important. A homeschool setting allows me that extra time to develop a close relationship with them. I strive for them to learn important life lessons from me, rather than peers. My goal is not to reach the finish line, but rather treasure the time I have now, as it will develop a relationship that will last a lifetime.

We love to spend our extra time with friends, playing sports, church involvement, and co-op events. I try to see teaching opportunities in everyday living, yet strive to let my kids just be kids too!
I feel that just because parents can homeschool, does not necessarily mean that all should. But, before you give the excuse, "I could never homeschool," remember that it was YOU that taught your children how to talk, walk, read, and learn basic life applications, before entrusting the school system to take over academically. I am personally very grateful that I have the opportunity to teach my children ALL day, EVERYDAY.

I have a homeschool motto I live by:

"The thoughts, beliefs, and characters we feed our children today, become the foundation of their behaviors tomorrow."

I truly feel this is best achieved through the process of homeschooling. Whether you have been homeschooling for years, or just getting started, remember to lead by example, and be confident in your ability to teach your child. You CAN do this!

  1. I do not necessarily agree with you on every point, but on the major points we are in perfect agreement. Some days I don't want to spend all day with my child, but I know that I would rather her be with me, learning the things I feel are important rather than being under the direction of someone I neither know or trust. Homeschooling isn't easy, but it is the best alternative for us. I wish you a happy homeschooling year, and a wonderful relationship with your children!
