Classy Women: The New Endangered Species
Brace yourselves ladies, I'm about to get real! So today I had an enlightening time, while shopping at Walmart. You know how most stores hire a person to walk around and pretend they're shopping, but really they are watching for shoplifters and such. I think it is safe to say that he is probably no good at his job, if I am able to immediately pick him out in the crowd. See, growing up I wanted to be one of three things-- a chef, a private investigator, or a stay-at-home mom. I chose the latter of the three, which probably kept me thin and out of trouble. But, I am finding that my PI skills are top notch these days. I found myself following the man, who follows the shoppers. It was less than fascinating, to say the least. I kept hoping he would find someone shoplifting, so I could make a citizens arrest or something. Needless to say, the only thing that needed arresting were the women I came across!
Do you know how hard it is to teach my young boys to respect women, when most women show little or no class these days? It boils me to the core! I'm talking women with filthy language and clothing five sizes too small. I have seen it on young girls and all the way up to old women. At what point in time did women think it was acceptable and attractive to trade in their class, for raunchy, trashy appearances? All it does is welcome an invitation from men to be gawked at, which most seem to like, yet leaves the rest of us battling for respect. It is degrading to those of us women who work hard to earn respect, maintain a lady-like attitude, and hold high standards. When I see these young girls and women prancing around like prostitutes, it makes me fearful for the selection my boys will have, when it comes to dating. I've already warned them that if they bring a girl home, with her butt-cheeks half hanging out of her shorts and the words "Juicy" displayed across them, she's going to be marched out of my home with a request not to return until she's gone shopping. Call me judgmental (I've been called worse), but I have a standard that I will not waiver on, because some girl thinks it is okay to seduce men (especially my boys and husband) with her body. Mom's, you should be concerned with the clothing your daughter wears out in public. Need I remind you that there are perverts lurking in every corner, waiting to pounce your child, regardless of her age. I personally would think twice before allowing my young child to wear a bikini to a public pool or beach. It sickens me to think of the risk children are placed in on a daily basis, as their clothing not only portrays them as older, yet draws unwanted attention from perverts and pedophiles.
How do you know if you are a culprit? Easy, you don't like what I am saying right now and you are trying to justify it. Here's the thing though, it's not just at Walmart, although I do tend to joke about it a lot. Unfortunately, I have seen it at family-friendly establishments, employees of professional businesses, and even occasionally at church. Completely unacceptable. It's one thing to take that look to the bar on the weekend, where everyone is dressed for a one-night stand. But c'mon, at Chuck E. Cheese...really? The clothing a young girl or woman wears is a reflection of what she represents, whether she likes it or not. From the looks of today's society, we are not representing class, sophistication, or high value by any means. To make sure you are not a culprit of this offense, I encourage you to ask yourself, "What does this outfit portray about me?", before leaving the house. It's a simple concept... if you have a shirt a little too low-cut or slightly see-through, throw a camisole or tank top underneath. If your pants are too tight, accompany it with a cute longer top. If you have to wear that short skirt, throw solid leggings underneath it. It's not just the women wearing clothes too small or too tight, leaving much to hang out. It is also the subtle movement of bending over when wearing a v-cut or low-cut shirt. Woman, please do the world a favor and raise your hand to your shirt upon bending down. It a simple gesture that is both welcomed and necessary. I know I don't only speak for myself when I express how frustrating it is as a mom and wife to try to be the buffer between appropriate behavior and pure trashiness. The most attractive women in society are the ones who show confidence, security, and depth in who they are as a person....even in a turtleneck! On the contrary, women who dress inappropriately show lack of respect for both themselves and others, as well as a huge insecurity with themselves. It's like saying, "Hey look at my body, because I don't have a brain!" I guarantee you that a decent man, I repeat, a DECENT man, will go for the classy, confident woman before choosing a woman who has all of her cards on the table to see. I am not saying you have to whip out your pearls and scarves, and be covered from head to toe. I am all for attractive, age-appropriate clothing, that compliments your body. However, most women now a days seem to have bought their clothing from the kiddie section. I'll leave you with one parting thought...One size does not fit all.

AMEN SISTER!!! Thank you for this post!
ReplyDeleteThanks for being bold about improper dress! Modesty is a virtue and people dress according to who they want to attact. My girls and I recently went swimsuit shopping and we all found beautiful, modest one-piece and tankini swimsuits!! They are still out there, you just have to look for them. We walked in and out of several stores that only had bikinis until we found what we were looking for to glorify God and not stumble men and boys.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's why God chose not to give me daughters...he knew I wouldn't have the patience while shopping for appropriate clothing. LOL! Not for nothing, there are perverts at public pools and I wouldn't want my 12 year old daughter dressed in a skimpy bikini, for their pleasure. Sad world we live in.
DeleteAmen! We have 2 sons and 1 daughter and it has been difficult to find clothing appropriate for her and she is 20 now she has always had a 1 piece swim suit we try to teach our children the biblical ways to the best of our ability. It is a scary and sad world they have no respect for themselves! Donna
